This past weekend Cause Roast joined fifteen creative entrepreneurs and difference makers at SPACE Retreat in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina/Tennessee. The core idea behind SPACE Retreat is fairly simple: creating space. Easier said than done.
It is so easy to get distracted and overwhelmed in life and business, falling prey to the illusion that we can’t slow down or rest. To-do lists, soccer games, board meetings, etc. It’s like a constant bidding war for our attention and time. Yet, it’s ironic how much clarity, peace, focus, innovation, and strength we gain when we’re intentional about creating space or margin in life and taking time to rest. This weekend I realized that the coffee "ritual" is helpful in creating that space and learning to rest. You can't rush your chemed pour-over or speed through heating your water. So, the next time you are about to start your morning (or afternoon) coffee ritual, take a minute to step back and think, rest, recharge, and remember... Great things take time, so should we.
Some questions to help you rest and create space:
1) What are you grateful for?
2) What do you know to be true?
3) What else do you know to be true?
4) Do you praise or express gratitude to others?
5) What would make the rest of this year satisfying? (week, month, etc)
